Park Sanctuaries
Park Sanctuaries
Year: 2012 (Ongoing)
Sanctuary: A place of refuge and safety; a natural reserve; or a holy place such as a temple or church.
Park Sanctuaries is a series started in December 2012 as an attempt to answer this definition within the not so famous but abundant park offices and neighboring structures that are found in almost every New York City park. While the concept of these park offices as religious sites may seem foreign in the traditional sense, the consistent similarity of architecture of these structures act as spiritual monuments that safeguard the park land, preserving its nature within the surrounding community, and provide a place of rest for visitors on a daily basis.
